The Chicago Club has embarked on our third year of collaboration with the Mary Lyon Elementary School. This northwest side Chicago Public School, named after our college's founder, is aware of its roots, and even has Mary Lyon's silhouette on the school banner!
Previously, the Club sponsored a book drive for first and second grade classroom libraries. This year, we have been asked to collect for the fourth grade classes. Our goal continues to be to provide a book for each child-six classrooms, with an average of 35 students per class, equaling 210 books. Thanks to a spirited response, we have twice exceeded our goal!
Please consider making a contribution towards the purchase of a new book, or donating a fourth-grade appropriate book. The committee will collect donations until March 15th. The second half of May will be spent ordering books to fill out the collection and fulfill specific teacher requests. In April, the Club will deliver the books and visit the classrooms.
Bring your donation to the Mary Lyon Brunch. To coordinate a book drop-off at another time, contact Marion Bridwell Taicsich '81 at (847) 520-1786 . Mail a check, made payable to "MHC Club of Chicago," to Amy Schuppert, 899 S. Plymouth Court #608, Chicago, IL 60605.
